Which online degree program(s) do you teach?
Which class do you teach online?
COM 531: IMC and the Strategic Mindset; COM 534: Communication Ethics & IMC; COM 537: IMC and Crisis Communication
What types of projects can online students expect in your course(s)?
Discussion board posts, infographics, integrated marketing communication plans, presentations, reading and case analyses.
What do you want students to learn in these courses?
To understand how theory informs integrated marketing communication practice. The IMC program was designed with the following assumption—effective organizations build relationships with core audiences and strive to be a good relationship partner by communicating ethically.
Why did you start teaching?
After I worked as a marketing communication manager in the corporate setting, I wanted to understand why we were doing what we were doing. I also enjoyed mentoring interns. This led me to get my Ph.D. and go into the teaching and research of IMC.
What advice would you give to those considering this online program?
Most of our students have full-time jobs and families. That being said, the 7-week terms are fast-paced, so you need to really carve out time each week to complete your work.
What is the one book you think everyone should read?
The Authenticity Hoax by Andrew Potter
Tell us something interesting about yourself that your students might not know about you.
My first job in high school was selling hay and straw to horse owners at a race track.
