COM 533 Organizational Culture, Identity and Brand
What types of projects can online students expect in your course(s)?
Discussion board posts, both small group and full class, a communication audit, readings and small assignments related to the readings.
What do you want students to learn in these courses?
COM 533 examines the connections between an organization's culture, brand and identity and how these are communicated to organizational stakeholders.
Why did you start teaching?
I started teaching because of the influence that my professors had on me throughout my college experience. I could see the impact that professors made on students and I knew that I wanted to inspire and encourage students in the same way that I had been encouraged and inspired.
What advice would you give to those considering this online program?
The program is set up to help students be successful, with cohorts to help build relationships during the process as well as clearly structured courses that are easy to navigate. The advice I would give to those considering the program is two-fold. The most important factor to consider is whether the program specifically matches the area of study one is interested in pursuing. Secondly, I would consider whether a fully online platform is the most effective method of education for you. You want to be sure that you enroll in a program that is the best fit for you and your studies.
What is the one book you think everyone should read?
The Five Love Languages: The Secret to Love that Lasts by Gary Chapman.
I will admit, I have a hard time these days sitting down to read a book. After years of reading book after book for school, I believe my mind took a hiatus from reading for fun. This book was the first book that I read for fun and couldn't stop reading. I love to learn about the dynamics of relationships, and this book focused directly on relationships and the diverse dynamics that go into managing relationships, specifically romantic relationships. However, the author has several other books that are similar but for a different audience.
Tell us something interesting about yourself that your students might not know about you.
I am a first-generation college student. Neither of my parents graduated from college. For me, this brought its own set of expectations that I set for myself during my undergraduate studies, including making straight A's all four years and maintaining a perfect attendance record in all of my courses. As a first-generation college student, I wanted to make my parents proud through my educational accomplishments.
